Seymour Now an Official Purple Heart Community

SEYMOUR – The town of Seymour is now an official Purple Heart Community, joining several other municipalities in the state.

Former U.S. Army Major Dan Eddinger of Torrington, Connecticut, explained the importance of the Purple Heart and thanked the town for taking the step to add its name to the list of Purple Heart Communities. Mr. Eddinger fought in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart twice, first in May 1967, and again in January 1968. He went on to serve his country for over 26 years.

The Purple Heart is a highly regarded honor, only given to active service members who are wounded as a result of enemy action.

What does it mean to be a Purple Heart Community?

Being designated as a Purple Heart Community is a great honor that recognizes the town's commitment to honoring and supporting our nation's veterans who have been wounded or killed in combat. This designation shows our community's dedication to honoring the sacrifices made by these brave men and women.
